On Father's Day, I hosted a cookout for my Dad. It's been a couple of years since I've seen Dad on Father's Day because I've been out of town. Father's Day also coincides with the U.S. Open (golf tournament), and Dad is an avid sideline spectator. The U.S. Open takes place at Congressional Country Club, which is within an hour's drive from my house. Maybe tickets for a future U.S. Open would be a good Father's Day present? (Not too sure about that, since the view from TV is so much better.)
There are a couple of things Dad really likes without question: good coffee, and homemade banana pudding (that is served at room temperature — no refrigeration, so that means making dessert early in the day). Dad also set the menu for the day: hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, and banana pudding. I threw in a couple of other dishes for good measure, and of course, true to my cooking style, there is a TON of food left over.
Trying to get photos of the day's events is tough. People (in my family) just don't want their photos taken. So happy my nephews posed for a couple of photos:
Celebrating life's milestones and documenting life's memories are precious.
