Ali announced in her blog yesterday that she will no longer be doing her monthly column Studio A for Creating Keepsakes Magazine. Her last column was in the December issue. Wow. I wonder if this is an omen that yet another scrapbook magazine is on its way out? I really like Ali's style and her column was the first one I read every month. Definitely going to miss her presence in the magazine. She has other irons in the fire so to speak, and she's going to still be updating her blog regularly. Since magazines publish about 4 months out, this decision went down a while ago.
For me, what is missing the most in scrapbook magazines are layouts celebrating life either before kids, if you've never had kids, or after they've grown up and gone. Layouts about holidays without minor children, chronicling an achievement like going back to school or graduating from college with your own kids. I think I'm looking for something more — a way to convey my art beyond the traditional scrapbook page with photos, journaling and embellishments, taking it to a whole other level. I need to get on that. (After this semester is over).
Half day of classes today, and then the Thanksgiving break. I'm going to my Dad's and my sister is also having something at her house, so I won't be seeing any of that side of the family. My sister in New Hampshire is not coming home until Christmas, so she's having a little celebration with her little family. I wish there was some way we could all spend time together. But that's how it goes.
