A photo collage of the highlights of my trip:

Flying in over Port Everglades always gets me excited.

This Old Timers breakfast at Cracker Barrel is heaven on a plate.

DSCN0145 This alligator, with his breakfast hanging out of his mouth… (it gives me the creeps!  But like a car accident or train wreck, you just can't look away!)

This stray I found on the side of the road outside of Everglades National Park.  What a sweetheart!  When I last checked on her, she was still at the Key Largo Animal Shelter, and going to be adopted out.

This is the view from the pool at the hotel.  What a beautiful day!

On Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 2:00 a.m., 17 Cubans arrived at Fort Jefferson in this "chug." They are all now legal U.S. residents. They left Cuba on Monday, December 14th at 5:00 a.m. They travelled 90 miles in this chug across the open ocean. Our guide told us that the boat people from Cuba in these chugs have a GPS device to guide them to the Dry Tortugas or Key West. Once Cubans set foot on US soil they are allowed to become residents of the United States.  The occupants of these chugs are often extremely sea sick and covered in diesel fuel (see the engine inside the boat and they bring containers of fuel to keep the boat going).  What an eye opening experience for me.

Watching all of the sailboats of the shores of Key West before heading back to Ft. Lauderdale to catch the plane home.

Today is cloudy and dreary, with a lot of rain expected later.  Reality has really hit me as I gained 5 pounds while I was away.  So bummed (because I really tried to be conscious of what I ate, I made sure I did a lot of walking, and I only ate at the Cracker Barrel once).  Oh well, back to the drawing board with a recommitted effort to eat healthy and exercise daily.
