I first read about choosing a "word for the year," from Ali Edwards. She posted about it on her blog, and now even hosts a year long class on Big Picture Classes called One Little Word. From Ali herself, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can be sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow. From my own personal experience, it can be a catalyst for enriching your life."
I have had a word for the year since 2009, and they have included: Awakening, Consciousness, Simplify, Transformation and this year's word is Choices. For me, choices is about those every day decisions, choosing to eat better, choosing to exercise (over not), choosing to think and act kindly instead of jumping to conclusions, and being mean spirited. And making some choices about big things, choosing to stick to a financial plan, choosing to make a will, choosing what kind of final arrangements I want, choosing to stay positive. There are a lot of other "choices," as well, but you get the general idea.
I joined Ali's One Little Word class again this year. I signed up for the class in 2011, but didn't really stick with it, and didn't do the work. As with anything, you get out of it what you put into it. I want to be fully present this year with my word, and give it a chance to resonate, to take root and to grow into making good choices every single day.
What's your word for 2013?
