I had an enjoyable tour of Charleston, and was in the car and back on the road by 12:15 p.m. on my way to Hilton Head Island. After an uneventful drive, I got here about 3:30 p.m. and stopped at the visitors center, and found a FABULOUS rate at the Holiday Inn Oceanfront for $69 per night. My room is just a standard room with no view, but I’m only steps from a fabulous view by the pool or out on the beach. I decided to stay here for two nights and head home on Friday. I want to relax some before that long drive home.
As soon as I got here, I put on my bathing suit, and went to the pool. It was hot outside and the pool was refreshing. At the pool bar, I got a strawberry daiquiri, and there was a guy playing 70s ballads which I could hear very nicely from my lounge chair. I even got a second daiquiri and thoroughly enjoyed the music. There is entertainment out by the pool from 1 to 5 and 6 to 10. I stopped by the pool to hear the guy playing this evening and he was playing the same type of music, and I listened to him for a bit before coming up to my room. I’m feeling really sleepy tonight – a lot of activity the past week, and a lot of fun.
Tomorrow the plan is to get up early and go to Savannah which is only 47 miles from here, take a tour, see if I can eat lunch at The Lady & Sons (Paula Deen’s restaurant), and then head back to Hilton Head Island, where I need to go to Harbour Town (on the other side of the island), which has a lighthouse, restaurants and shops. I’d like to spend a couple of hours by the pool and listen to some music and enjoy some frozen drinks. Then I need to be on the road by 10:00 a.m. on Friday for the 10 hour trip home on 95 North all the way baby! (If I leave at 10:00 a.m. I should miss all of the DC Friday rush hour traffic).
