The Manatee in Marathon

imageThe sunsets were amazing in Marathon, and along with the stunning colors of the evening, those of us that gathered along the water’s edge each evening were also treated to some other amazing sitghts of nature.  One evening it was the man and the shark, another evening we saw a sting ray (couldn’t get a good photo of it though), and then on this night while waiting for the sun to set, we saw this manatee swimming under the dock.  The water is really shallow here, only a few feet deep.

imageThe manatee swam over to the fish cleaning station, and someone turned on the hose, and as it turns out, manatees LOVE fresh water from the hose.  We were able to get a glimpse of this great beauty coming out of the water to drink, and I love how its tail also came out of the water.  I think this manatee was experiencing total joy.

imageWhen it got its fill, it swam away, just in time for the sunset.

That was truly one of the coolest things I have ever seen.
